If you got a Parkinson's diagnosis, you don't have to despair. Research shows that the combination of medication and exercise can significantly improve your symptoms. Exercise might even slow down the progression of the disease. The important thing is to get informed, create your support team (neurologist, PT, speech therapist, movement coach, Parkinson's support groups, etc.) and start the right exercise regimen as soon as possible.

YOGA FOR PARKINSON'S
Wednesdays, 1:30pm-2:45pm, at the Grace Presbyterian Church, Oak Room, at 2100 Tice Valley Blvd, Walnut Creek. Please call Petra at (510) 520 4523 to find out more. Yoga is the perfect practice for people with Parkinson’s because it’s gentle and addresses some of the biggest challenges a person with PD has to deal with. On the physical level, it improves your posture, flexibility, and balance, but also your leg and core strength. Specific breathing practices can help you improve your lung capacity, energy levels, and keep anxiety under control. Relaxation practices recharge you and make you feel more at home in your body.
We will use props such as chairs, yoga blocks, straps, and blankets to make the poses accessible to all. We’ll start with chair-based movement, continue with standing poses and finish with mat based practices. Bring your own mat and a small pillow for under your head. No previous yoga experience necessary. Modifications will be provided so everyone can participate.
$20 drop-in, $120 a month if you’d like to take both Monday PD Fit class and Wednesday yoga class.
